Friends of Pathways has a formal partnership with the USFS to collaborate on design, construction and stewardship of local trails for all users – hike, bike, horse, and ski. We’re committed to providing easy year round access to trails in order to maintain our high quality of life in Jackson Hole.
Trail conditions are much the same as last week. Cache/Game and Munger are good to go with still some snow lingering higher up on Teton Pass in the shaded areas. Crews this week cleared Phillip’s Pass, Arrow, and Phillip’s Canyon bringing our total of cleared tree to 322 for the year so far. Sounds like there may be a few new ones in West Game that we will get next week. We also worked on drainage in Cache after the heavy rains this week and restarted our war on invasive weeds on the Putt Putt and Game Creek trails. We are going to be doing some work out of the Cache Creek trailhead for National Trails Day next Saturday from 9-12 if anyone wants to come volunteer. Hopefully the rain holds off and you can get out on the trails this weekend!

We’ll be clearing debris, improving drainage, and getting trails dialed for the season ahead. Whether you’re a regular trail user or just looking for a great way to spend the morning outside, this is a fun and meaningful way to get involved.

Today was the ground breaking ceremony for Teton Pass Trail! 🍾
The Teton Pass Trail will connect two states, two counties, and two national forests with a continuous, safe, and scenic pathway. The Teton Pass Trail will:
• Add 3.6 new miles of safe, separated, non-motorized pathway along a dangerous section of WY Highway 22
• Connect major trailheads at Trail Creek and Coal Creek
• Provide year-round access and recreation on public lands
• Link to the Greater Yellowstone Trail, a 180-mile regional trail, originating in West Yellowstone

The cooler temps and snow this week slowed down the melting of trails on Teton Pass. Crews this week worked on Poison Creek and Tusky Ridge at Munger, and History, Arrow, Snotel, and Ski Lake on Teton Pass. So far this year we have cleared 270 trees which is already double what we cleared last summer. All the heavy snow and high winds this winter left some tangled messes of blown down trees for us to clean up out there. We will keep pushing up Ski Lake and out Phillip’s Pass next week and try to clear down Arrow and Phillip’s Canyon. Hope everyone enjoys the sunny weekend!

While we boast 70+ miles of pathways in Teton County, many neighborhoods remain disconnected from the pathway network.
A prime example is the neighborhood on Andersen Lane (next to Calico) in Wilson. There are more than 30 elementary school age kids in this neighborhood alone who cannot access the pathway due to the nonstop flow of high speed traffic on HWY 390.
Luckily, there is a request for $200,000 in the Pathways 2027 budget for initial planning and design for the WY390 Eastside Pathway Project. This project would put a pathway on the east side of 390 and could potentially include a pedestrian underpass (The FY27 budget starts July 1).
The Board of County Commissioners will be discussing the Pathways budget on Monday, May 18.
Public comment will be taken.
Please show up and remind @tetoncounty about the importance of having Every Neighborhood Connected to the pathway network.

Getting Wilson Elementary properly equipped for iWalkiBikeiBus day tomorrow. A pathway came very close to Wilson School, but actually delivered kids to HHR Ranch Road, which has vehicles turning from and on to HWY 22, making for a less than ideal situation for kids on bikes. So we worked with the school, busted down the fence, laid some gravel down, and voila - a safer situation. Swipe on for the iWalkiBikeiBus Schedule.

Trail Conditions for 6-19-20
News & Announcements, Trail UpdatesTeton Pass got some fresh snow this week so the trails up high will likely be a bit muddy in spots and there are definitely drifts lingering on ridges and in north facing tree cover. The crew cleaned drainage and added fill to bridge approaches and turnpikes up Black Canyon and saw some bikers coming down who had post holed out to My Elly before descending mostly dry trail. Similarly people are making the connection from the Phillip’s Pass trailhead down to the Phillip’s Canyon access on Fish Creek with a combination of trails and the BPA road which is mostly dry. The hiking trails are more accessible and it would be a great weekend for a chilly dip in Ski Lake. Our youth trail crew started their summer this week and cleaned a bunch of drains in the rain, built a few turnpikes, and added a new balance feature to the Blair Dr. Bike Park. Look for them out on the trails working hard this summer!

News & Announcements, Trail UpdatesTeton Pass is aiming for its traditional dry trail date of July 4th again this year. Trails are slowly melting and the crews cleared Blacks up to Mt. Elly but found a lot of snow above bridge 4 in the shaded part of the canyon. The trails north of the Phillips/Jimmys parking lot still have a lot of drifted snow as well although it is about the time that an intrepid biker could link up some trail and the BPA road to access the lower Ridge trail. Hikers should fair better but prepare hard packed snow in the mornings and slushy snow as the day warms. Snow King is good shape although trees keep falling in the burned area of West Game and Wilson Canyon. If you see any new fallen trees please let us know through our trail maintenance request and we will go get them with the help of our youth trail crew which starts on Monday. Look for them out on the trails and remember trail crews always love cookies!

News & Announcements, Trail UpdatesSnow King is completely dry and riding great! The crews cleared some trees off of West Game and Ferrins yesterday, but expect a few more to fall in the burned section of Wilson Canyon and West Game. If you see some new trees down after a wind event shoot us a trail maintenance request and we will get them cleared. Teton Pass is also drying out but slowly. We cleared upper Crater and History trail this week and there is some snow lingering on the top of History. Big Rocks and lower Blacks and getting there too and we will be out clearing those trails on Monday. On the northern side of the highway there is still a lot of drifts on Arrow, Ridge, and Snotel. The BPA road is drier since it gets more sun and can get you further out but it will still be hard to link to the trails that descend to Fish Creek. A quick reminder to enthusiastic trail users that building jumps and features is not allowed on the trails. The frontcountry system is managed for multi-use and the trail crew works hard to maintain trails so everyone can enjoy them. On this same note please do not remove trail closures and rehab materials. When trail braids and shortcuts happen because of irresponsible use the crews choose the alignment that drains water the best, reduce speeds, and provide for the best line of sight for other trail users. Then we will close and rehab the other sections. Thanks for helping us make sure everyone can enjoy the trails safely and get out this afternoon and enjoy the trails before the rain and snow this weekend!

News & Announcements, Trail Updates, UncategorizedThe trails in the Cache Game area are almost dried out. There is still some lingering snow and mud in the 5 way meadows on Wilson Canyon, as well as on upper Cache Creek and the north side of the Cache Game divide. The crews installed more rock steps on Josies Ridge to help keep this popular steep trail from eroding. We also started some clearing on Teton Pass where the snow line is slowly rising. We were able to get up the Ridge trail from Fish Creek to switchbacks, and on Phillip’s Canyon to just below the Arrow trail junction. Crater was also mostly dry as is the Parallel trail but trails in the trees on northern slopes are still holding snow. Old Pass Road should be plowed of snow in the next day or two thanks to Jim Verdone. With the warm temps it should be a great weekend to get out and enjoy the trails!

News & Announcements, Trail UpdatesTrails were melting out quickly with temps in the 70’s earlier this week but will be slick and muddy with the wet weather lingering through Saturday. The lower parts of some trails on Teton Pass are snow free and are being cleared by the USFS and FOP crews this week and next week. On Snow King most trails are dry with lingering snow on the north side of the Ferrins and Cache/Game saddles, and within the Snow King Ski Area. There are also lingering wet and muddy spots in the 5 way meadows of Wilson, Leeks, and West Game as well as towards the end of the Hagen trail. Munger is good to go and the bike parks at Blair Dr. are also ready, including the new Totem Track just to the north of the community gardens. Hopefully this will help spread out the crowds and give the youngest users their own space. Have fun this weekend and try to stay off of the trails while the rain lingers, maybe aim for Sunday afternoon or Monday for your adventures!
