You’re invited to celebrate Tim Young, his career, and his significant contributions to our pathway network on Wednesday, September 27 at 5 p.m at Hungry Jacks in Wilson.

Tim recently retired and his friends, colleagues, and fellow walk and bike enthusiasts want to thank him for his years of tireless work to envision and create a safe, separated pathway network in Teton County, as well as his work creating walking and biking networks in other Wyoming communities, and beyond.

Please spread the word! See you Wednesday.

Friends of Pathways supports kids biking to school and wants to give students the skills they need to do so in a safe way, while preserving the pathway experience for all users.

In May of 2023, Friends of Pathways visited Jackson Hole Middle School and taught bike safety in an assembly setting and outside using a bike skills course. The curriculum focused heavily on e-bike safety. Friends of Pathways organized this fun and educational day for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in response to growing public concern regarding pathway safety, specifically as it relates to e-bike usage and middle school students.

Friends of Pathways has recently hired Bike Safety Coordinator Aaron Nydam @nydamaaron who will assist in our efforts to provide pathway etiquette and e-bike education to our youth, visitors, and residents alike.

On Sept. 12 and 14, we will head back to the middle school to offer free bike inspections for all kids who bike to school to ensure their bikes have working brakes, lights, bells, tires, drivetrains, etc. we appreciate the support from @hobacksports , @wheelwranglers , @pedegojacksonhole , @thehub_jh , @fitzgeraldsbicyclesjh , and @tetonmountainbike in this effort.

If you enjoy living in a walkable and bike-able community where people of all ages and abilities have equal access to our pathways and trails, please support Friends of Pathways during Old Bill’s Fun Run! Link in bio. #oldbills2023 @cfjacksonhole

Whether it’s promoting pathway safety or advocating for active transportation, FOP works hard so you have healthy and sustainable choices for moving around our beautiful home - like our wonderful bike lanes that traverse town.

Our in-town bike lanes connect people to key destinations like the rec center, our schools, downtown, civic buildings, multiple parks and green spaces, a ski area, national forest trails, the rodeo grounds, multiple affordable housing projects, the library, the “new” post office, and our 70-mile greater pathway network, which leads into Grand Teton National Park.

FOP is a voice for connecting more neighborhoods to Jackson’s pathway network, so people don’t have to make dangerous choices if they choose to walk or bike.

We are working to grow a culture of bike safety and respect along the pathways with increased public education as well as bike & e-bike safety classes to over 600 JH Middle School students.

We want to ensure that the pathway between Wilson and Jackson remains a priority during Highway 22 expansion discussions.

FOP will always work to foster healthy recreation and active transportation choices so people have options to leave the car behind.

Please support us during Old Bill’s Fun Run. Link in bio! #oldbills2023

FOP clears brush, trees, and debris from 130 miles of the most popular trails on the Bridger-Teton National Forest and this summer, we have been busy building 3 miles of new accessible trails that welcome a wide range of trail users and equipment.

In July, FOP's Chris Owen and Sarah Soper hired a crew from the Montana Conservation Corps and together began building 3 miles of trails at the base of Black Canyon at the Old Pass Road area with Universal Design Principles. We are aiming to have this completed by some time in September.

And back in June, Chris and Sarah, along with the same crew from the Montana Conservation Corps, rerouted much of upper Black Canyon trail making it much nicer to descend.

If you enjoy these incredible trails, please support Friends of Pathways (FOP) through Old Bill’s Fun Run this year. Link in bio!

Trees, trees, big trees! The crew did some more clearing on Arrow, Snotel, Ridge, Ski Lake, and Black Canyon this week and cleared a few dozen trees including some big firs and spruce. We cleaned drainage on Big Rocks, Blacks, and Ski Lake and started laying out some of the project work in Black Canyon that a Montana Conservation Corps crew we hired will be helping with next week. These include a number of small reroutes to improve drainage, decrease erosion, and minimize the amount of maintenance we have to do each year on the trail. We also continued the war on musk thistle in Game Creek and buffed out the Shade Monkey trail that Snow King reestablished after they finished burying their snowmaking lines. The Teton Pass trails are almost snow free with lingering patches on Ski Lake, Phillip’s Pass, the north facing parts of Arrow, and most of the ridgeline of Black Canyon to Mt. Elly. If you are tenacious enough to hike through a mile of snow, come visit us next week on the upper parts of Black Canyon and remember the trail crew loves cookies.
