One step closer to a permanent Bike Share system in Jackson!

Last Night, the Jackson Town Council approved a grant from Energy Conservation Works of $70,000 toward the capital expenses to develop a permanent Bike Share program for Jackson.

Bike Share is a healthy, sustainable, and affordable form of public transportation, which would complement Jackson’s current START system by making it easier for people to get to and from START bus stops and move around town without a car.

For locals and area businesses, a permanent Bike Share program has the potential to:

  • Reduce traffic congestion in summer months
  • Alleviate parking challenges for both employees & visitors
  • Supplement other forms of public transit
  • Curb carbon emissions & reduce gas consumption

Energy Conservation Works sees the Bike Share as one part of a successful program to reduce emissions from transportation. We commend the Town Council and ECW’s Board for their role in moving forward options to increase mobility in downtown Jackson during our busiest summer months.

Energy Conservation Works’ mission is to provide leadership, implementation and education specific to energy conservation, sustainability and efficiency projects. One of their goals is to reduce emissions from transportation.
